About the Artist

Stu Doherty

Port Macquarie is home to Australian artist Stu Doherty, the land of the Biripi people inspires and directs his gentle watercolour practice. Born in Camden, south west of Sydney, and studying at East Sydney Technical College in the late 90’s, Stu has always drawn inspiration from his natural surroundings.

An essential element of Doherty’s creative process is being physically present in the landscape, where he spends time walking, collecting objects and photographing daily. These collected items and photographs become the foundation of his studio work, serving as inspiration for quick watercolour studies and texture experiments that then inform and direct his larger finished works on paper.
