House and Home Exhibition
With Sue Bell
"...the house is a world in itself"
- Poetics of Space Bachelard,G. p37
House and Home is a reflection on moving house from a psychological, imagined and remembered experience.
“I think the first works reflect a more wistful feeling and after the move a subtle change takes place. There is a visual connection between some of this work and a previous exhibition titled Young at Heart shown at Grafton Regional Gallery. Memory was a strong trigger for this work.” SUE BELL 2023
In a poem by Emily Dickinson on houses she is told what they should be.
"Houses”-so the Wise Men tell me –
“Mansions”! must be warm!
Mansions cannot let the tears in,
Mansions must exclude the storm!"
- The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson, p59.
